Peter Knecht’s 50+ experience

Have a look how Peter Knecht, a former 50+ Student, experienced his stay at Kurus English. Follow him through his special Cape Town adventure. Just click this link and join Peter on his 50+ journey: https://picasaweb.google.com/112529293328028788403/Kurus11_22022013?authkey=Gv1sRgCKjtwtfm3teBcg&feat=email#

During his stay at Kurus English Peter encountered a lot of unique places in and around Cape Town. Starting off with the visit of a Sangoma, a traditional healer and the Imam Dawood (a Muslim leader), who opened the doors of his mosque, followed by the excursion to Greenpoint park, where Jethro Louw introduced him to unknown energies and currency. Peter also set foot into the Lynedoch Eco-Village, discovered Camissa, the place of sweet waters and met Kelvin Cochrane, who showed him the Buttom Road Sanctuary Zeekoevlei. At the weekend Peter went on the Cape Peninsula Route and he seduced his taste buds on the mouth-watering Gourmet Route as well as at the Jazz-Safari evening!

Thank you very much to Peter Knecht for sharing his beautiful memories and pictures with us.

Dear Kurus English!

I had a very, very nice time with you. I enjoyed the lessons, I learned so much and I hope I`ll come back in three or four years. But till then I`ll extend my vocabulary and learn the tenses.

The lessons helped me with my grammar and English skills and in the afternoon the excursions are a fantastic way to learn and practice the language and meet the people, country and culture of South Africa.

Thank you for everything!!

Monika

Thank you so much

I enjoyed it really very much. It was a great time and I’ll recommend Kurus wherever I can.

Dear Kurus team,

Carola Schwar

Time flies…

Thank you for two amazing, wonderful and informative weeks.  I’d not enough time to ask all of my questions.  It was a lot of input and just a little time. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in a part of South African life and getting an impression of this beautiful city. I’d like to say again, we haven’t any problems at home.  I’m so glad that I had my own teacher.

Carola

Dear Gavin and Jessica! Dear ‘Coffee Beans’!

Thank you so much for this wonderful occasion to stay at your school for one week. We have profited in English and have learnt a lot of/about the social conditions; the efforts you are making to improve our cultural understanding is a great benefit to us.  We hope to see you again either in Zurich, Switzerland or in Cape Town!

New STAR TRAILS by Erich Meyer: this time from Lions Head

Star Trails, Lions Head, Cape Town

This image is a combination of 548 individual shots taken in Cape Town/ South Africa.

The image shows a synopsis some minutes before the beginning  until 2 hours after the sunset.

The planet Mercury is fine to see below the star ‚Regulus‘ (it is the brightest star of the star constellation ‚Leo‘).

Left star trails are curved around the South Pole and right star trails are curved around the North Pole. Stars that are located on the celestal equator have straight lines.

The exact point “West” is marked.

The image shows that the sun was placed in the northern part of the celestial sphere at 15th July 2011 (near the summer solistice at 21th June).

The dotted lines are caused due to illuminated and moving fishing boats and due to the exposure time intevall of 15 seconds.

Brighter areas near the beaches are the result of whitecaps.

Details:
Location for the image: on Lions Head (669m) – Cape Town, South Africa.
Date of exposure: 15th July 2011.
Exposure time: 2 hours. Time between exposures: 15 seconds.

Have fun with this particular image!
Best regards and the best wishes to Cape Town
Erich

See what our 50+ students do in Cape Town: STAR TRAILS by Erich Meyer

Star Trails, Table Mountain, Cape Town

This picture is a collection of 620 single images, taken with a digital camera and a 24mm x 36mm sensor. A wide angle lens was used (17mm). The camera was fixed on a tripod and was oriented towards the south. Due to the motion of the Earth (daily motion) the stars appear as trails (star trails). All star trails are bending around the South Pole.

Complete time of exposure for all images: 3 hours, taken on 5 July 2011 from 8:30pm to 11:30pm.

Clear sky

Erich, Linz, Austria

The time is over!

I was studying at KURUS SCHOOL for two weeks. I had really great time here, becuase I was feeling an exceptional friendly atmosphere and had highly competente teachers, especially Gavin!
A daily highlight were also the excursions guided by Iain. I’m so happy to have learned both, English and a lot about Cape Town – his History, all the News in the Present and the challenges in the Future.
Yes, Cape Town is a woth living town. I’m going to come back with my wife in 2012!!
Thanks for all,
Erich

50+ English Tuition Package

Kurus English is happy to announce the creation of special packages for the age group 50+. We would like to promote 50+ bookings on special dates to create a well balanced age-mix in our classes. In addition, to our normal programme Opportunity 1: language, culture, discovery, we have already included 3 leisure time activities in the package.

English Language Tuition:

Our 50+ English tuition takes place from Monday to Friday from 09:00-13:00 o’clock. (2 hrs Grammar, 2 hrs skills and vocabulary) Three times per week you experience our cultural, social and historical Language Excursion. These teacher-guided Language Excursions provide you with the opportunity to meet the diverse people of Cape Town and present you with occasions to practice your English in authentic, real-life contexts. Our outdoor Language Excursions replace indoor communication classes and guarantee language practice in authentic contexts.

To get more information of the English Language Tuition programme please click here.

Leisure Time Activities:

In addition, we have already included and organized three special trips in Cape Town through our tour operator Coffeebeans Routes.

Our Peninsula Route, our Cape Wine Route and our “private” Dinner evening.

Peninsula Route:
On this Route we travel around the Peninsula and experience the majestic beauty and scale of the city. We head to Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, and Simonstown, where we will visit the crazy penguins who hate the cold. Then down to the nature reserve at Cape Point, through to Scarborough and Kommetjie, over Ou Kaapse Weg, Constantia Nek, through Hout Bay and back to town along the Atlantic Coast. It’s a beautiful day out in nature!

Cape Wine Route:
On this route you will experience our magnificent Wine region during two wine tastings in the wonderful Constantia Valley. This is the oldest of the wine regions in the Western Cape, the birthplace of wine in South Africa. It is stunningly beautiful in landscape and architecture, and close enough to the city that a lot can be experienced in a half-day wine tour.

Some of the Constantia Estates include Groot Constantia, the grand-daddy of wine estates in the Cape, Klein Constantia, Constantia Uitsig, Steenberg Vineyards, and Buitenverwachting.

Which wine estates we visit depend on the day and the region that you are most interested in exploring.

“Private” Dinner:
You will dine in one of the most beautiful gardens of Cape Town and enjoy a typical African/Cape Town dinner with locals, with them you can interchange views and opinions/stories and enjoy an exclusive evening.
