Morning: 4 hours classroom-based Grammar and Skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Vocabulary development.
Afternoon: 2 to 3 hours Language Excursion:
During the Language Excursion (3 afternoons per week) you are accompanied by your teacher, who becomes your language guide, promoting, encouraging and linking language practice and discovery
through cultural, historical and social excursions, visiting, meeting
and communicating with relevant and informed people in Cape Town. In
the morning classes, we provide authentic and relevant supplementary language materials to inform and prepare you for the Language Excursions in the afternoon.
We offer weekly Language Excursion themes, which include: Food and Cuisine; Spirituality; Work and Business; Science and Technology; Freedom and Responsibility and Media and Expression. The themes change every week for a period of 12 weeks. The Language Excursions
are flexible and coordinate with actual events in Cape Town, when
possible and/or desirable. These excursions give you the unique
opportunity to improve your English while meaningfully encountering the
people, the energy and the diversity of Cape Town.
Here is an example for the theme Food and Cuisine:
Enjoy South African multi-national cuisine while going on a Cape Malay
cooking experience. We shop with a family living in the Bo Kaap.
Afterwards, we return to their home, prepare typical Cape Malay food
and, naturally, we have dinner together. On another afternoon, we drive
to a spectacular wine estate to enjoy a wine and/or olive tasting
experience; we receive insight into the wine-making process and the
history of South African wine production. On our final afternoon, we
visit a well-known Cape Town musician who provides us with an
introduction to the typical cuisine of the Xhosa community in South
Africa.
Our afternoon Language Excursions provide you with the opportunity to use the English language while meeting and engaging with local Cape Town people. A learning journey of experiences and discovery you will never forget.
This is just one detailed example of a weekly theme. All the other themes also provide you with the opportunity to use the language meaningfully in authentic environments,
while encountering interesting people, listening to their stories and
sharing food and life experiences. We promise you unforgettable discovery excursions, designed to improve your English competence.
